The First IAP Workshop - Dublin City University, 8-11 April 2008

The first IAP workshop took place at Dublin City University on 8-11 April 2008 and was opened by President Mary McAleese,  President of Ireland. The keynote address – Research Capacity Building in African Universities – was given by Professor Akilagpa Sawyerr, Secretary General of the Association of African Universities. The opening session was introduced by the president of DCU, Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski.

Nearly 80 senior academics – including six presidents and vice-chancellors – attended from the 13 participating universities in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda.

The topics discussed included: how the IAP might contribute to building research capacity in African partner universities and development research capacity in Irish partner universities; exploring the opportunities in education and health development research; and exploring the themes emerging from the workshop sessions on education, health, ICT and gender.
